A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY

Nestled against the western slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, Quincy, the Plumas County seat, is tucked at the edge of the lush American Valley. Quincy is the largest community in Plumas County, with a population of only 5,970 (as of the 2010 census), is located midway between Oroville and Reno on all-weather Scenic Byway - State Route 70, at the top of the Feather River Canyon.

Quincy started as Gold Rush community in 1858, just outside of Elizabethtown. James H. Bradley, one of the organizers of Plumas County, donated the land at Quincy for establishment of the county seat. He then laid out the town and named it after his ranch located in Quincy, Illinois.

In 2017, Quincy was named #7 on the list of The Most Beautiful, Charming Small Towns in Northern California by www.onlyinyourstate.com. The website highlighted the annual High Sierra Music Festival and our year-round attractions and beauty.

ONE OF AMERICA'S COOLEST SMALL TOWNS

In 2013, Quincy was named #8 on the list of America's Coolest Small Towns, an annual list compiled by Budget Travel based on votes received from the public all over the nation. Quincy was the only town in California to make the top 10 list.

According to the Budget Travel criteria for the contest, "The town must have a population under 10,000. It also needs that indescribable something; independent shops, a sense of energy, an epic backyard, culture, delicious coffee. In other words, cool doesn't necessarily mean quaint: We wanted towns with an edge and a heart."

The contest received over 96,000 votes (combined) and over 2,400 comments in favor of 924 towns across the country.

PLUMAS-SIERRA COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS

Quincy is the home to the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds, known to be the cleanest and greenest in the State of California. The fairgrounds hosts a number of main events including: The High Sierra Music Festival, Mountains to Meadows, The Beemer Bash, The Annual Easter Egg Hunt put on by the Soroptimists International of Quincy, and The Old-Fashioned County Picnic, which features a pancake breakfast, softball tournament, music, BBQ foods, a classic car show and chili cook-off - just to name a few. The Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds also hosts the State's oldest County Fair in the second week of August. Some of the events include: The Midway of carnival rides, games and food, 4-H and FFA shows, Star entertainment, car races and much, much more!
